Oak International Freight

Oak International wanted a promotional map highlighting their route capabilities within Europe. They wanted something light and easy to post so we created a simple map which was printed onto a mouse mat. Easy to post at the size of A5, the mouse mat served 2 purposes, a great corporate gift to give to clients whilst educating their customers on their European reach.

Hamburg Sud transport nearly everything in containers. Whether transporting them port to port or door to door, Hamburg Süd gets your cargo to its destination safely and on time.

A simple request was for a long lasting gift that would mean customers could easily contact their local office for help. With that in mind the finished product needed to have the local office details printed on it. We decided on a useful Political map as the main feature. Political maps are designed to show governmental boundaries of countries and states. They can also indicate the location of major cities, and they usually include significant bodies of water. We also added the World time zones as an added extra piece of useful information.

These details were all printed onto a desk mat, so a constant reminder of their services is always in sight!

The China UK Shipping Agency Co. Ltd. offers freight forwarding, cargo and container transshipment, bare-boat feeder service, cargo booking, shipping consignment, and leasing of containers. They wanted a really simple promotional giveaway to remind their clients and new prospects of their port locations.

Simple ideas are quite often the best so we opted for desk mats to use as the format for this promotional map. What better way to keep your brand alive than to have it on someones desk every day. At a quick glance the client can easily see the port locations to know whether China Shipping Agency can help with their freight forwarding needs, and of course the customised map clearly supports the company brand.

World-class Oman container trans-shipment hub Port of Salalah recognised the importance of clear, customised regional and global mapping to underpin its strategic position to both its staff and client base. It turned to UK-based mapping consultancy Oxford Cartographers to produce bespoke regional and global maps to highlight key direct shipping routes and destinations serving the facility. Part-owners APM Terminals also used the global mapping service to highlight the locations of its ports and logistics hubs around the world.

Having had previous experience working within the freight industry, Oxford Cartographers’ Business Development Manager Lynne Broda knows that customers seldom use just one shipping company, especially when it comes to air freight.

“So for shipping companies and handlers, there is a real and constant need to educate existing and potential customers on your breadth of services to maximise throughput,” says Lynne.
“It’s important to let customers know the countries and regions you serve and to do this with a promotional map, highlighting shipping routes, main destinations and facilities is a simple and effective way to remind customers of this.”

These maps can be further colour-coded to show frequency of services, pricing zones, travel times to name but a few additional attributes, all customised to reflect your corporate image and values. And as Lynne adds, the volatility of global trade patterns makes such communication with customers even more important.

“With global freight markets slowing down, particularly between Europe and Asia, but meanwhile increasing between Europe and the US, 2015 has been a challenging year. Promoting your services via any marketing channel can be demanding in these unpredictable times, so why not simplify the task with a map?

“A map is educational, fun and tells a story. It can be used as a strategic part of your marketing message whether being used in presentations or as a promotional give-away.”

The custom maps produced for the Port of Salalah have certainly borne out the theory.
