ACORN SERVICES CASE STUDY – LOCATOR MAP

Acorn Services client, The Salvation Army, were hosting a big event in London. They required 15,000 locator maps for their guests. They wanted to customise the map to highlight key places of interest from the O2 in the East of London to the City and West End in the West of London.

They needed the map to include the London Underground, as well as brand artwork for their client. They wanted advice on optimal size, weight of paper and fold for a mini map that would be best fit their ideas and artwork.

What we did

To enable Acorn to fully understand the size, frame and fold of the locator map, a dimensional diagram was sent so they could use it as a template for their artwork designs. Our production team advised a map that would fold out to an A3 size so that Acorn would have room for their branding and artwork ideas, and fold down to credit card size to easily fit into a wallet. The optimum weight of paper was advised so that the map would fold effectively for the number of panels they required to fit their artwork.

Other works carried out for this project:

  • Advice on how to license the London Underground map
  • Extracting an area of our London Street base map to cover the area requested
  • Creating an inset map of the O2 arena highlighting underground stations
  • Supplying pre press proofs, then printing and delivering to the customer’s address

The Result

Acorn and the client were delighted with the locator map which was completed on time and within budget.

I am absolutely delighted with the result of this map. The team at Oxford Cartographers are brilliant and not only did they provide professional advice, but they have also produced an accurate branded map that has satisfied our clients. I will be coming back to the Oxford Cartographers team with more projects very soon!”
